Holiday cover for your dog(s)
I (Alison) and two of our team provide holiday cover for dogs by house-sitting and caring for your dog(s) in your home. This is a perfect solution for sensitive and anxious dogs. I stay at the house for at least 20 of each 24 hours, though if your dog is unhappy when left alone, I can accommodate a 24-hour-a-day sit.
I do come with this wee man – Raffi, an extremely dog-savvy poodle/pug mix. We are willing to try a controlled introduction even if your dog is often reactive when they see dogs while walking, as we’ve had great success with this in the past.

We’ve been providing holiday cover for dogs in their own homes for all nine years of Raffi’s life. We have stayed peacefully with many dogs who are anxious or reactive when out and about, and I have a long list of repeat clients who are happy to chat with you if you need reassurance.
We are clean, calm, and careful, and I promise to care for your precious dog(s) and your property as I would my own.
I’m fully insured, an x-nurse (RGN/RSCN) who now has 13-plus years of working within my own dog care businesses, initially providing home boarding, daycare, and solo walking, and then, for the past 9 years, training and house sitting.
Call me on 07954 313 702 if you’d like to discuss this further.
House-sitting costs
Daily rate for one dog – £45.00
Daily rate for two dogs – £55.00
Daily rate for 3 dogs – £65.00
These rates include:
1 hour of walking alongside in-home activities.
They assume that:
- Walks do not require another person to help (multiple dogs).
- Your dog(s) is/are able to be left for 3 to 4 hours at a time.
- 60 minutes of walking is sufficient for your dog(s).
Higher rates apply if your dog(s) falls outside these parameters, and a fuel charge may be applied for walking away from your home.
Reduced rates are available for short days at the beginning and end of the sit (where applicable).
Other team members do not have an accompanying dog and may house-sit for new clients through their own businesses (rather than through Gentle Steps). It is your responsibility to make sure that you and your dog(s) are comfortable with the person you choose to stay in your home. We also suggest that you make any expectations clear in advance.
